Sara- Stay fit & healthy

1. Tell us about yourself.

Hey guys! My name is Sara, and I’m all about championing a healthy lifestyle through food and fitness. As a true blue Malaysian, cut me and I’ll bleed sambal: I live to eat – and it might surprise you, but I don’t believe in diets or counting calories, and that it is possible to eat what you like and have the body you want. It’s not about forcing yourself to diet or exercise, but embracing balanced living. I’m also plant-based for health and environmental reasons!

2. What is your childhood dream? Did you make it happen?

I remember reading a quote that went something like this: a classroom was asked what they would like to be when they grow up. Doctor, teacher, lawyer – these were a few of the examples given. One child wrote simply wrote, ‘happy’. My childhood dream was to pursue happiness, and throughout the years what made me happy has evolved. What has stayed constant is my definition of happiness: waking up with a light heart, and falling asleep without pressing worries (good sleep is one one of the most important pillars of health!) 2018 has been my best year so far as I’ve grown so much, so I would say yes, I am happy – but happiness is a constant work in progress.

3. Describe how you first get into being a social media influencer/blogger? Is being a social media influencer/ blogger your full time job?

I had just graduated from university, was returning back to Malaysia without a job after living in Melbourne for 4 years, and struggling with the transition of growing into an adult. Add a breakup and a diminished friendship circle (most of my friends at university weren’t Malaysian, or from KL), and you get one very lost girl. I decided to properly kick-start my fitness journey with Kayla Itsines’ BBG programme. My previous fitness routine was to run on treadmills for 20-30mins, which made me sweaty but not much to show for it. I also decided to document my journey and progress with an Instagram account in order to connect with like-minded girls, and to stay motivated.

I have a full-time office job at an advertising agency, which allows me to flex my mental muscles instead 🙂

4. Do you have other passion to pursue?

Fitness is my passion! I guess it was a blessing in disguise that I only fell in love with fitness after graduating from university, because I would have honestly been tempted to study personal training or nutrition, but I now see the strength in keeping a passion as something I do on the side, and pursuing something I want to build as a career. This allows me to get the best of both worlds.

Other than fitness, I would say the environment is a passion of mine – I try to be as mindful as I can be in my life to lessen my impact on the environment. This is a major reason why I’ve cut down on meat to become plant-based (not vegetarian yet, because I still eat meat from time to time). Some other ideas include bringing your own bags out when you shop – even if they give free plastic bags, being mindful of your water and electricity usage – it’s about doing what you can, because every action helps.

5. What type of influencer/blogger you would describe yourself as?

My account is focused on fitness, but I see it more as a lifestyle thing because I try to cover all the different things that make up what it means to be ‘fit’: from self-image and self-confidence, to workouts and dietary preferences.

6. What does the word success means to you?

Success is doing something that makes a difference, and it appeals to your heart, not ego.

7. What values are most important to you?

a) Choosing happiness, from your daily habits to the people you surround yourself with
b) Maintaining a positive mindset
c) Being grateful for all that you have

8. If you are given a million dollars, what would you do with that money?

Invest most of it! I’ll take the rest to travel.

9. What is your proudest achievement or accomplishment you have achieved in life?

Building my Instagram account from nothing to something I can use to connect and meet up with different people from all around the world, and making corporate connections by being their ambassadors! It has shown me you don’t have to have hundreds of thousands of followers for people to remember you – just be authentic, and that will shine through.

10. What would you say that is the biggest challenge about being a influencer?

Not losing yourself. Social media is taxing, and you need to always be present to make sure it doesn’t swallow you whole.

11. If you have a magic ward, what is the one thing you would ask for and why?

The opportunity to always pursue what I want, and the wisdom to know when to stop.

12. What advice would you give to other aspiring influencers? Any general advice to those have big dreams?

Find what your passion is, and don’t make it your career. It can be your passion, it can be your side income – but it shouldn’t be everything. As always, balance things out. Also, see answer 10.

13. What do you wish for by the time you hit the age of 30?

Stay tuned to my Instagram, because whatever I want to achieve by that age, I’ll be documenting it there haha.
