Winifred- You are unique

1. Tell us about yourself.

A little bit about me, well I am a bit of a free spirit, originally from Jeffreys Bay, I grew up with the ocean in my backyard. While at school I enjoyed acting and being a part of the theatre productions. I moved to Cape Town after graduating High School to study Graphic Design and while in Cape Town I got introduced to the modeling industry. Growing up so close to the beach, I think it helped shaped the wildness I have, I really enjoy life. I try and look at the bright side of everything, laughing is definitely the cure to all negativity and that I create my own story…I also believe in fairytales and make no excuses for my expressive language sometimes.

2. What is your childhood dream? Did you make it happen?

I have loads of dreams. I wanted to be a Graphic Designer and so I have become one, I also wanted to model and I am. Now that I have grown into the woman I am today I still want to be a Graphic designer but as a freelancer, I want to model more and be able to travel all across the world only so I can rescue animals, and fight for the environment.

3. Describe how you first get into being a model? Is being a model your full time job?

I always entered competitions and really enjoyed it but was never signed with an agency until I came to Cape Town. Before I got signed with TOPCO I’ve always helped out photography friends and students with projects. I wish I could be a model as a full-time profession. I’m actually a graphic designer and have been doing modelling part-time.

4. Do you have other passion to pursue?

I’m passionate about health, I really enjoy educating others about good nutrition and leading an active lifestyle, the environment is right at the top next to saving animals and helping the less fortunate.

5. What type of model you would describe yourself as? Any tips for being a model?

I always try and be myself. I’m professional and fun-loving at shoots. I usually try and make everyone laugh and bring loads of energy. My tip, always be true to you, have fun when your at a shoot but be professional, be humble and don’t pass up helping the photographers with freebies.

6. What does the word success means to you?

Success means that I am happy, that I have achieved my dreams and reached my goals. Success for me is living a full life and being able to take care of myself and my family.

7. What is your mantra for living?

Just to be present and not overthink tomorrow to much. Always be kind to others and love yourself everyday and be grateful for the life you have.

8. If you are given a million dollars, what would you do with that money?

Oh gosh, well I’ll probably invest some of it, take my parents on a holiday and then tour the world and help build veggie gardens in villages.

9. What’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought in your life? And why?

A ticket to Afrikaburn last year and then I couldn’t make it (sigh) I have been once before and for 1 week in a year you are so free, you meet so many people and the art, those sculptures are breathtaking and so I wanted to go back.

10. What is your proudest achievement or accomplishment you have achieved in life?

I have a few. I’ve designed a few of the labels on liquor bottles that you can find in South Africa. Seeing that makes one feel really proud. I’ve been in a Hunter’s Extreme Advert that aired in SA and I made it onto some Vodacom Adverts.

11. Can you name some of your favourite bloggers/influencers and why? Who would you love to collaborate with?

I have way too many, so lets start – Kelsey Wells (Fitness and lifestyle blogger/influencer), Daniel G Castrillion (photographer), Ryan Roake (Photographer), Dan Mace (Photographer/Videographer), CarolineDeisler just to mention a few.

12. What would you say that is the biggest challenge about being a model?

Trying to make every casting (just kidding) For me personally, I’m naturally competitive and always want to do/be the best I can so the challenge for me is not to be my own worst enemy.

13. If you are given a chance to invent something, what would it be?

Wow, I would try and create something to keep the world fed even when you don’t have much for it to grow in.

14. If you have a magic ward, what is the one thing you would ask for and why?

This might sound really strange but I would love to hold a sloth! That would be my wish. I think they are the cutest creatures.

15. What advice would you give to other aspiring model out there? Any general advice to those have big dreams?

Always help the little guy, skill trade like I need pictures taken and you need a design done – let’s trade! Don’t compare yourself to others, you are so unique and thats how it should be. You’re dreams are never to big, believe in yourself always.
